Commercial products are a mixture of congeners, with Penta-, Octa- and DecaBDE being the ones most frequently used.
RoHS has limited the allowed concentration of PBDE’s in products at 1 g/kg similar to PBB’s. Tetra-, penta-, hexa- and heptaBDe are all included on the list of POP’s under the Stockholm convention.
Toxicity
PBDE’s are ndocrine disruptors and neurotoxins in addition to having a negative effect on reproduction, liver and thyroid.
These compounds are classified as “alleged carcinogens in humans”
